Hemorrhoids are swollen veins either inside or just outside your anus. They can be very itchy, sore or painful and in some cases can bleed when you are having a poo. If the bleeding is frequent or severe it is important to consult your doctor, but if not then any of these hemorrhoids home remedies may help you.
Sitz Baths
If your hemorrhoids are very sore, a sitz bath will provide quick relief for the pain. It will relax your muscles around the anus and just inside it.
Run a bath of about four to six inches of warm (not hot) water. (If the water is too hot it will hurt your hemorrhoids even more.)
Sit in it for about fifteen minutes. You don't need to add anything to the water although some products, such as St John's Wort, can promote healing.
Repeat this several times a day if possible.
Dose yourself with Psyllium Seeds
Psyllium seeds can be a great source of dietary fiber - and without fiber you are in danger of getting constipated which can cause hemorrhoids or make any you already have much, much worse.
The straining associated with constipation may well make you push out a hemorrhoid which will rub on your pants and cause great discomfort when sitting.
You can get psyllium seeds from health food shops; start by taking one teaspoon of seeds in an 8 ounce glass of water at breakfast every day. After one week, add another glass of seeds in water at lunchtime, and in the third week add a third glass at dinner time. You will now be having enough fiber in your diet but it is vital to drink plenty of water to help the fiber to work in your digestive system. You should get much softer stools, which are easier to pass, and will give your hemorrhoids a chance to heal.
Petroleum Jelly or Zinc Oxide Cream (Nappy rash cream)
Either of these have been shown to lessen the discomfort of hemorrhoids and are very soothing. After wiping your bottom (gently), dab on some cream with a cotton wool ball. Always keep the anal area clean and dry, and don't use scented toilet paper or soaps on that area.
